Ministry to Others

Love in Action…Ministry to Others

There are many ways to serve within First Presbyterian Church. Providing your time and talents as a member of one of the following Ministry Teams is one way to share your gifts in caring for others.

Our Ministry Teams

Child Development Center: This ministry team serves as an advisory council to the church’s Child Development Center. The team is comprised of Elders, church members, Child Development Center staff, and parents.

Christian Education: The mission of the Christian Education Ministry Team is to nurture God’s people, children, youth, and adults, through regular study of the Bible, Christian faith, and the issues of living as faithful Christians in a secular world.

Congregational Life: This ministry team provides pastoral care through an organized program of Care Givers, who minister to members through visitation and crisis response. They also sponsor various programs to enrich the fellowship within the congregation. A separate arm of the committee provides meals as needed after hospitalizations, deaths, etc.

Fellowship: This ministry team seeks to enhance the fellowship of the church by planning and conducting a year-round program of church get-togethers for fun, food, and fellowship. Covered dish dinners as well as the Presbyterian Men’s Fellowship Dinners are examples of their ministry.

Membership: The Membership Ministry Team reviews the membership rolls in accord with the Book of Order (G-5.0502) and reports its findings to the Session for appropriate action at the end of each calendar year.

Mission: In obedience to Jesus’ command to love God and love neighbor, the Missions Ministry Team ministers to the needs of neighbors in the community and world. They seek to provide opportunities for adult members to do “hands-on” work, guide the church’s benevolent giving, and support other ministries. They serve as the community relations arm of First Presbyterian Church.

Newcomers and New Members: In response to the Great Commission to “go and make disciples”, this ministry team invites and welcomes guests, seeks the active participation of all members in inviting others to worship with us, involves new members in church activities, and reaches out to inactive members.

Personnel and Administration: This ministry team oversees and supports the work of the church staff, suggests appropriate compensation, and conducts search for support staff as needed. It initiates the annual election of the church Nominating Committee. In addition, it provides the pastor with congregational feedback.

Building: This most valuable ministry team provides for the maintenance and renovation, as needed, of the church’s buildings, and develops long-term plans for continuing maintenance and expansion. The Chairperson supervises the church custodian.

Church Grounds: The goal of the church Grounds Ministry Team is to preserve, develop and maintain the church grounds and all parts there in.

Montreat House: The mission of this ministry team is to maintain the Elizabeth Lord Huske House in Montreat and oversees its rental status.  Go to for reservations.

Scholarship: The Scholarship Ministry Team provides oversight of the annual scholarship process: reviewing the available investment funds, establishing and publishing eligibility criteria, and selecting the scholarship recipients.

Stewardship: This ministry team not only plans and oversees the annual pledge campaign, but also seeks to educate, encourage, and challenge God’s people throughout the year to a faithful stewardship of time, talent, and tithe.

Worship: The Worship Ministry Team seeks to enhance the worship life of First Presbyterian Church. It organizes the participation of members as ushers, communion preparers and servers. It works with the minister on special services, decorates the sanctuary for Easter and Christmas, and coordinates with the music program. Guest preachers are secured by this committee. The congregation celebrates the worship of God following church year. Special worship services include: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, Vesper Service and ice cream supper, World Communion Sunday, All Saints Day, Advent, and Christmas Eve Services.

We also actively support the following local programs:
