2024 Stewardship Campaign
Committing Time, Talent, and Tithe to support the ministries of First Presbyterian Church
Time and Talent
How can you use your time, or what talents do you have to share that can make our church better equipped to serve in worship, fellowship, and mission? Consider the following opportunities:
Liturgist
Presbyterian worship is enriched by Biblical liturgy, a word that literally means “the work of the people.” The liturgist helps add the congregations voice to worship leadership, and also help ensure Wes’ voice doesn’t do all the talking! Liturgists typically sign up for a full month, but we also need names to put on the backup list for the times that month’s liturgist might not be able to be present.
Caregivers
FPC has 12 caregivers who work to make sure the congregation receives the support each person feels they need at any given time. We’re always on the lookout for those who might want to serve as a caregiver, but especially need folks who are able and willing to step up to provide food or cards for those dealing with particular struggles.
Building
Our 101 year old building is in need of constant love. From cleaning and painting to small scale construction projects, help is always needed to maintain our space. If you are handy, or know how to hold the tools of those who are, we’d love your help!
Choir
Love to sing? Even if you can’t carry a tune, you’re welcome to make a joyful noise in the choir. Rehearsals are each Wednesday night at 7:30. And if you don’t want to commit to a weekly choir rehearsal and worship, we’re always on the lookout for occasional soloists or those with musical talent. And even if you can’t play an instrument, you can join the handbell choir!
Finance
Are you a numbers person? Our Finance Ministry not only prepares the annual budget and keeps an eye on expenditures, it also manages our invested funds and plans the annual stewardship campaign.
Garden
The FPC Community Garden, recently refreshed by the Herculean efforts of the Harrell family. Volunteers are needed often for weeding, planting, harvesting, and anything else that might help our garden thrive.
Worship
The worship ministry meets each month to plan worship services. If you have ideas on how to make improvements to worship, or have creative thoughts on elements to incorporate to make specific seasons more meaningful, you’re welcome to join! Worship meets the first Tuesday of the month at 1 pm and is led by elder Calvert Smith.
Fellowship
The Fellowship Ministry is primarily concerned with planning events for the congregation to enjoy being together, whether this is in Sunday lunches or other events. Fellowship also assists in planning receptions for funerals.
Nursery
Our nursery is staffed each week with one paid worker, who is CPR and First-Aid certified, and at least one volunteer. Regular volunteers are needed every Sunday, so if you have a soft spot in your heart for children, this is an opportunity for you!
Christian Ed.
From Sunday opportunities for all ages to week day gatherings, Christian Education is tasked with ensuring FPC maintains a robust offering for developing spiritual practices and Biblical foundations for lifelong faith. Christian Education is led by elder Emma Crabtree.
Montreat
The Elizabeth Lord Huske House, or simply “the Montreat House,” is FPC’s home in Montreat, NC. While it serves as a rental home for the many conferences and retreats offered by the Montreat Conference Center during the Summer months, it is offered to church members for use during others. At least once a year a crew will head to the mountains to do repairs, maintenance, and anything else needed for the house. Tom Callicutt is the elder in charge.
Grounds
Our beautiful grounds enjoy regular project days in order to weed, mulch, trim, and much more. Volunteers are also regularly needed to do smaller projects on days we don’t have a large scale volunteer effort. Think you might have some ideas to better the church grounds? Let us know!
Mission
The Mission Ministry is the heart of who First Presbyterian Church is. We remain actively involved in the Reidsville Outreach Center, Rockingham United, Church World Service, and much more. We also give out scholarships each year to deserving students. Joining the Mission Ministry is a great way to give back in the name of Christ. Billy Coleman leads this ministry.
Personnel
The Personnel Ministry has two main jobs - reviewing our staff and serving as the nominating committee for elders. Reviews for staff are held annually, giving staff the ability to better develop goals and ensure they are meeting the needs of our congregation. If a staff vacancy were to occur, they’d also recruit to fill the position. Shirley McMichael is the personnel elder.
Other
Want to give back in another way not already listed? There are countless ways to be of service to FPC - Knitting, Ushering, Sound Tech, and more! You’re invited to speak to Wes about ways to use your gifts to serve the church!
